Bookings and Payment
Bookings and program spaces are subject to availability. Under the existing program policy, a reservation is held once payment has been completed. Payment must be made in full upon receipt of the invoice and before attending, where that requirement applies to the service booked.
Payment may be made by e-transfer. Cash or cheque may be accepted in person upon request.
Please refer to your invoice and the terms supplied for your particular program for any service-specific payment instructions.
Refunds and Cancellations
General Refund Policy
Training packages and classes are generally non-refundable once a program has begun. Exceptions may be considered at the discretion of One Leg Up Canine Company.
Training deemed mandatory by a shelter or rescue organization is non-refundable, without exception.
Where a medical emergency is considered as a possible exception under the applicable program policy, a refund may be considered at One Leg Up Canine Company's discretion. The existing policy specifies a $30 administration fee and a veterinary note for an approved medical refund.
Private Session Cancellations and Rescheduling
For private training sessions, cancellation or rescheduling with less than 24 hours' notice is treated as a used session.
Clients should contact One Leg Up Canine Company as soon as possible if they need to change an appointment.
Daycare and Socialization Visit Cancellations
Under the existing daycare and socialization policy, less than 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling counts as a used visit. At least 24 hours' notice is required for a makeup visit.
Package Expiry and Transfers
Packages and pre-purchased sessions or visits must be used within 90 days, as specified in the applicable program policy. Unused sessions or visits may be forfeited after that period. Extensions may be considered for circumstances identified in the applicable policy, including medical emergencies or facility holidays.
Services and packages are non-transferable.
Dog Health and Preventative Care
Clients are expected to ensure their dogs receive veterinary care and remain current on vaccinations and preventative care as recommended by, or considered necessary by, their veterinarian and as required for the applicable program.
Dogs that are ill, injured, or suspected of being ill or injured must not attend. Clients must promptly disclose relevant illness, injury, suspected medical conditions, or exposure to illness. Concerns may include, for example, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, unusual lethargy, appetite loss, fever, or dehydration.
One Leg Up Canine Company may ask for relevant veterinary or vaccination information. Under the existing agreement, if documentation has not been provided, the client may authorize One Leg Up Canine Company to contact the dog's veterinarian to obtain relevant medical or vaccination history.
Behaviour, Handling, and Safe Participation
Clients must disclose relevant information about their dog's behaviour, including fear, aggression, reactivity, bite history, handling concerns, or other circumstances that could affect safety, before the dog participates.
Clients must also inform One Leg Up Canine Company of material changes to their dog's behaviour or health.
One Leg Up Canine Company may determine that a dog is not suitable for a particular group activity or may remove a dog from a program if the dog displays excessive stress, reactivity, or other behaviour that creates a welfare or safety concern.
For in-home appointments, clients must safely manage their dogs before the trainer enters. Dogs with fearful, reactive, or aggressive behaviour should not be allowed to rush to or greet the trainer at the door.
Training Equipment and Humane Handling
One Leg Up Canine Company uses positive-reinforcement training practices. Harsh handling methods are not permitted as part of the existing training and program policies.
Choke collars, electric collars, and prong collars are prohibited on the premises under the existing agreement.
Clients are expected to bring the equipment and supplies requested by the trainer for their particular service. These may include high-value treats, a six-foot flat leash, a treat pouch, a stuffed rubber food toy, and other items specified by the trainer.
Attendance and Children
Minors may participate only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian.
The parent or guardian is responsible for the minor's participation and safety. The existing policy contains additional requirements for children under 12 attending dog-training activities; clients should confirm any applicable program-specific requirements before attending.
Veterinary Emergencies During a Program
If a dog requires veterinary attention during a program, One Leg Up Canine Company will make reasonable efforts to contact the client and, where appropriate, arrange care with the veterinarian identified in the client's application.
If the client cannot be reached and timely arrangements cannot be made with that veterinarian, One Leg Up Canine Company may seek care from a licensed veterinarian of its choice, acting reasonably. The dog's welfare and health will be prioritized.
The client is responsible for veterinary fees and related costs incurred for their dog.
Photography and Video
The existing client agreement includes permission for photographs, videos, and basic pet information to be used for educational, advertising, or promotional purposes, including on the One Leg Up Canine Company website, social media, videos, and posters. The agreement states that this use is without compensation and that the material is not to be used by third parties.
Clients should review the photo and video permission in the agreement applicable to their service. Any revised or replacement agreement should accurately reflect the permission the business intends to request.
Client Responsibilities and Risk
Dog-related activities can involve risks, including injury or damage involving dogs, people, property, or equipment. Clients are responsible for supervising and managing their dogs as instructed, providing accurate and complete information, following reasonable safety instructions, and bringing required equipment.
The existing service agreements contain risk acknowledgment, liability, and indemnity provisions addressing, among other matters, injuries or damage, failure to disclose relevant information, and incidents arising from inadequate management or neglect.
The scope and enforceability of any waiver, release, exclusion of liability, or indemnity depends on applicable law and the circumstances. This section is not a substitute for the full, lawyer-reviewed liability and consent wording that may be required in a separate service agreement.
Clients are encouraged to review their own insurance needs, including any applicable property or tenant insurance.
Service Delivery and Missed Classes
The service, format, location, and duration of training depend on the program booked and the arrangements confirmed with One Leg Up Canine Company.
For missed group classes, clients should review the homework notes and contact the trainer as needed to help stay on track.
Any additional service-specific requirements should be communicated in the program description, booking information, invoice, or applicable client agreement.
Changes to Programs and Policies
One Leg Up Canine Company may update its program information and policies as its services and operating practices change. The applicable terms should be provided to clients before or when they book, as appropriate.
